How to Use the Biorhythm Calculator

Calculating your biorhythm cycles takes just two inputs. Biorhythm theory proposes that three biological cycles begin at birth and repeat in fixed intervals throughout your life, influencing your physical, emotional, and intellectual states.

  1. Enter your birth date. Select the date you were born using the date picker.
  2. Set a target date. This defaults to today, but you can change it to view your biorhythm for any past or future date.
  3. Read your results. Each cycle shows a percentage from -100% to +100%. Positive values indicate a high phase (peak performance), negative values indicate a low phase (recovery period), and values near zero indicate a critical day (transition point).

The chart below the results shows a 30-day window centered on your target date, so you can see upcoming peaks and dips across all three cycles.

About the Biorhythm Calculator

Biorhythm theory was developed in the late 19th century by Wilhelm Fliess, a colleague of Sigmund Freud. The theory states that three sinusoidal cycles start at birth and influence different aspects of life. The Physical cycle (23 days) affects coordination, strength, and stamina. The Emotional cycle (28 days) governs mood, creativity, and sensitivity. The Intellectual cycle (33 days) relates to memory, alertness, and analytical thinking. While biorhythms are not scientifically validated, many people find them a useful framework for self-reflection and planning.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a critical day in biorhythm?

A critical day occurs when a cycle crosses the zero line, transitioning between positive and negative phases. These days are considered unstable transition points. Some biorhythm practitioners suggest being extra cautious on critical days, especially when two or more cycles cross zero simultaneously (a "double critical" or "triple critical" day).

How are the three biorhythm cycles calculated?

Each cycle uses a sine wave formula: sin(2 x pi x days / cycle length), where "days" is the number of days since birth. The Physical cycle has a 23-day period, the Emotional cycle has a 28-day period, and the Intellectual cycle has a 33-day period. The result ranges from -1 to +1, displayed as -100% to +100%.

Is biorhythm theory scientifically proven?

No. Multiple scientific studies have found no correlation between biorhythm cycles and actual performance or health outcomes. Biorhythm theory is considered a pseudoscience by the mainstream scientific community. However, many people use it as a reflective tool for mindfulness and self-awareness rather than as a predictive system.

What does a positive or negative biorhythm mean?

A positive value (above 0%) suggests a high phase in that cycle, meaning you may feel more energetic (physical), emotionally balanced (emotional), or mentally sharp (intellectual). A negative value suggests a recharging or recovery phase. Neither is inherently "good" or "bad." Low phases can be good for rest and reflection, while high phases may favor action and challenges.
