About the Countdown Timer
This countdown timer runs entirely in your browser. It calculates the difference between the current time and your target date, then updates the display every second. No server, no account, no installation needed.
Common uses include counting down to holidays like New Year's Eve or Christmas, tracking deadlines for projects and exams, building excitement for product launches or events, and timing personal milestones like weddings, birthdays, or retirement dates. The shareable link feature makes it easy to send a live countdown to friends, family, or coworkers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share my countdown?
Yes. Click the Share button to generate a unique URL that includes your target date, time, and event name. Anyone who opens that link will see the same countdown running live in their browser. On mobile devices, the native share sheet opens so you can send it via any app.
Does the timer work in the background?
The countdown is calculated from your system clock each time it updates, so switching tabs or minimizing the browser does not cause any drift. When you return to the tab, the display immediately shows the correct remaining time. However, the visual updates may pause while the tab is in the background, since browsers throttle inactive tabs.
What happens when the countdown reaches zero?
When the countdown expires, all numbers display as zero, the timer stops updating, and a "Time's up!" message appears. If you entered an event name, the completion message will include it. You can then start a new countdown by selecting a different date.
Does this work across time zones?
The countdown uses your local time zone. If you set a target of December 31 at 23:59, it counts down to that moment in your local time. When you share the link, the recipient sees a countdown based on their own local time zone for the same date and time values. If you need everyone to count down to the same absolute moment, coordinate on a specific time zone (for example, "midnight Eastern Time").
