How to Use the Graph Paper Generator

  1. Choose a paper type. Select from 12 styles including square grid, dot grid, isometric, hexagonal, Cornell notes, music staves, guitar tablature, calligraphy guides, knitting grid, polar/circular, and cross stitch.
  2. Adjust the spacing. Use the slider to set the grid spacing from 2 mm (fine detail) to 20 mm (large cells). The preview updates instantly.
  3. Set line weight and color. Choose from hairline through bold, and pick any color. Light gray (#CCCCCC) works well for most uses since it nearly disappears when photocopied.
  4. Toggle options. Enable the outer border for a clean page boundary. For lined paper, add a red margin line for authentic ruled-paper look.
  5. Download. Click "Download PDF" to get a ZIP containing Letter and A4 versions, both at 300 DPI for crisp printing.

About the Graph Paper Generator

This tool renders graph paper directly in your browser at 300 DPI print resolution, so every line is sharp on any printer. There are no subscriptions, no watermarks, and no server uploads. The PDF files go straight from your browser to your printer or cloud storage.

The 12 paper types cover a wide range of uses. Square grid and dot grid suit general note-taking and bullet journaling. Isometric and hex grids help with 3D sketching and game map design. Cornell notes follow the classic note-taking format with a cue column and summary section. Music staff and guitar tab paper are sized for comfortable notation. Calligraphy guides include 55-degree slant lines for consistent letterforms. Knitting grid uses a 4:5 aspect ratio to match actual stitch proportions. Polar paper works for radial diagrams and pie charts. Cross stitch uses bold markers every 10 cells to match standard fabric count.

All rendering happens locally. Your settings are never sent to any server.

Frequently Asked Questions

What paper sizes are included in the download?

The download includes two PDFs in a ZIP file: one formatted for US Letter (8.5 x 11 inches) and one for A4 (210 x 297 mm). Both are at 300 DPI, suitable for home inkjet printers, laser printers, and print-on-demand services.

What grid spacing should I use?

Standard graph paper uses 5 mm spacing (the default). For fine engineering or math work, 2-3 mm is common. For primary school use or large handwriting, 8-10 mm works better. Music staff paper typically uses 4-5 mm between lines, while calligraphy guide spacing depends on the pen nib size you are using.

Can I use these sheets for commercial purposes?

Yes. The paper sheets you generate are free to use however you like, including in printed workbooks, Etsy downloads, classroom handouts, and commercial planners. The small footer credit can be cropped if needed.

What is the Cornell Notes format?

Cornell Notes divides the page into three sections: a narrow cue column on the left (about 2.5 inches wide) for keywords and questions, a main notes area on the right for detailed notes taken during class or reading, and a summary section at the bottom (about 2 inches tall) for writing a brief summary after the session. The format was developed at Cornell University as an efficient note-taking and review system.
