- Choose your settings. Pick a grid size (10x10 for beginners, 15x15 for intermediate, 20x20 for a challenge), a design, and the number of colors. Click "Generate" to create your puzzle.
- Read the legend. Below the grid you will see a color legend showing which number maps to which color. For example, 1 = Red, 2 = Blue, and so on.
- Select a color. Click a color swatch in the palette bar above the grid. It will show as selected with a highlight ring.
- Paint the cells. Click any numbered cell in the grid to paint it with your selected color. The number tells you which color that cell should be. Paint all the cells to reveal the hidden picture.
- Track your progress. The progress bar shows how many cells you have correctly colored. When you reach 100%, the completed pixel art is revealed.
- Print. Use "Print Worksheet" for a blank numbered grid with the color legend, or "Print with Solution" to see the finished colored picture.
About Pixel Art by Number
Pixel Art by Number combines the classic color-by-number concept with a digital grid format. Each cell in the grid contains a number that corresponds to a specific color. By coloring every cell with the correct color, children reveal a hidden pixel art picture. This activity builds color recognition, number matching, fine motor skills, and patience.
All designs are generated entirely in the browser with no external connections. The tool includes hearts, stars, rockets, cats, fish, flowers, and randomly generated patterns. Every puzzle is printable as a worksheet for classroom or home use.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age is this activity best for?
Pixel Art by Number is designed for ages 5 to 8. Younger children can start with 10x10 grids and 4 colors, while older kids can try 20x20 grids with 8 colors for more of a challenge. The numbered cells and simple click-to-paint interaction make it accessible for early readers.
Can I print the puzzles for classroom use?
Yes. Click "Print Worksheet" for a blank grid showing only the numbers and the color legend. Click "Print with Solution" to get the completed colored version as an answer key. You can generate and print as many puzzles as you need for free.
How does the random design option work?
The random option generates a unique symmetrical pattern using a seeded random number generator. Each time you click Generate with "Random" selected, you get a different design. The patterns use vertical symmetry so they always look intentional and visually appealing.
Is this tool safe for children?
