- Choose a grid size. Select 6x6 for a quick puzzle or 8x8 for a bigger challenge with more cells to eliminate.
- Click "New Hunt" to generate a fresh puzzle with a new treasure location and a new set of clues.
- Read the clues carefully. Each clue narrows down where the treasure can be. For example, "The treasure is NOT in row 3" eliminates an entire row. Combine all the clues to find the exact cell.
- Click your answer. Tap or click the cell you think hides the treasure. If you are wrong, the cell is marked with an X and you can try again. If you are right, the treasure is revealed.
- Print it out. Use the print buttons to create a paper worksheet. "Print with Solution" circles the correct cell so teachers and parents can check answers.
About Grid Treasure Hunt
Grid Treasure Hunt teaches coordinate grid skills, logical deduction, and process of elimination. Players read a set of clues that each remove some possibilities, then combine the clues to pinpoint the exact location. The grid uses letter-number coordinates (A1, B3, etc.), which are the same coordinate system used in spreadsheets and board games like Battleship.
This type of puzzle builds the foundation for more advanced topics like coordinate geometry and map reading. Every puzzle runs entirely in the browser with no external data or content.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age is Grid Treasure Hunt designed for?
Grid Treasure Hunt is designed for children ages 8 through 12. The 6x6 grid with simpler clues works well for 8-year-olds, while the 8x8 grid provides a challenge for older children who are comfortable with coordinates and logical deduction.
Is this safe for kids?
Yes. All clues are generated by a deterministic algorithm running in your browser. No external data, no user-generated content, and no chat features. Nothing is uploaded or shared.
Are the clues always enough to find the treasure?
The clues significantly narrow down the possible cells. In most cases you can determine the exact cell, though some puzzles may leave 2-3 candidates for an element of guessing. This is intentional to keep the game exciting while still rewarding logical thinking.
Can I print these puzzles for classroom use?
Yes. Click "Print Puzzle" for a clean worksheet with the grid and clues. Click "Print with Solution" to include the treasure location marked on the grid. Generate as many unique puzzles as you need.
