How to Use Spot the Difference

  1. Pick a difficulty. Easy mode has 3 differences, Medium has 5, and Hard has 7. Start with Easy for younger kids.
  2. Click Generate New Puzzle. Two scenes will appear side by side. They look almost the same, but there are hidden differences in the right-hand image.
  3. Click on a difference. When you spot something that is different between the two pictures, click on it in either canvas. If you are correct, a green circle will appear around it on both images.
  4. Find them all. The counter at the top tracks how many you have found. Once you find every difference, you win.
  5. Print it out. Use the Print Puzzle button for a paper version without answers, or Print with Answers to show where the differences are.

You can share a specific puzzle by copying the URL. The seed parameter in the address bar will generate the same puzzle every time.

About Spot the Difference

Spot the Difference is a classic visual puzzle that helps develop attention to detail, focus, and observation skills. Two pictures are shown side by side, and the player must identify the subtle changes between them. This version generates scenes from a library of colorful shapes and icons, so every puzzle is unique.

All images are created entirely in your browser using a fixed set of hand-drawn shapes. Nothing is downloaded from the internet. The game is safe, ad-appropriate, and suitable for children ages 5 through 8.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this safe for kids?

Yes. Every image is generated from a fixed library of hand-picked shapes and icons. No AI is used. No inappropriate content is possible. The game runs entirely in your browser and does not connect to any external services.

Can I print the puzzles?

Yes. Click "Print Puzzle" for a clean printable version, or "Print with Answers" to include circles around each difference. Both options work on US Letter and A4 paper.

How are the differences generated?

The game creates a random scene of colorful shapes, then applies a set number of changes to a copy of that scene. Changes include swapping a shape's color, removing a shape, adding a new one, moving a shape, or resizing it. Each puzzle is unique.

Can I share a specific puzzle with someone?

Yes. Each puzzle has a seed number that appears in the URL. Copy the URL and share it. The recipient will get the exact same puzzle with the same differences.
